Gilda Williams-Horowitz
Phantom Distance
Like so much of the great English-Canadian lyricists of the past century, Gilda Williams-Horowitz has a way of replacing the familiar with the unusual. Williams-Horowitz has an acute awareness of the subtleties of the electric guitar. Her delivery, however, is not precisely that of a contemporary jazz singer, and she has a distinctly un-Jazzlonious approach. Her songs, her line-up, and her delivery are unashamedly funky. Her guesting musicians are none other than The Late, Late Great Musician Jimmy "The Boss" Rose, the legendary trumpet player Johnny "Pato" Casimir and his late, great trumpetist Gary Moore. Williams-Horowitz is not afraid of a groove; it is the rhythm that she is in control of.
