This is the first release with the composers behind "Barriers", a piece inspired by the barrier between the physical and the virtual, and exploring the source and the effect of the separation. The arrangement is open, with each player free to create their own – channelling their own ideas, or simply a sort of silent, seamless integration of the pieces. Although the pieces are, ultimately, composed on a single instrument – the Yamaha TRM104 – the structures are not.
The structure of the piece is based on a combination of the three players using the Yamaha TRM104 together, moving from a slow, deep voice to a more high-pitched, resonant one, which is then blown, creating a constant flow of sound. This is building to a climax, and the results are both quiet and spacious. It’s as if the composers were analysing the physical structure of the Yamaha TRM104, trying to find their way to its sound source. But what works well here is the quality of the interplay throughout, completing each other and finding themselves in a space of peace.
