Vao Dhantrilu

A recording of a Mass taken by a group of monks in India's Himalayan region of Bhaktapur, "Vao Dhantrilu" captures the expansive beauty of the region as seen from above. The monks, who call themselves Gullana Dhantrilu, are the descendants of the royal house that ruled the area in the 14th and 15th centuries. The recording was made on a tiny cassette recorder and later transferred to another cassette recorder and then to a larger cassette recorder and then finally to a single cassette recorder. It is one of the only surviving records of the ancient practice of silent meditation conducted by the Dhantrilu monastic order.
